ABOUT OUR HOST:
Trained as an Applied Medical (Clinical) Anthropologist, at the University at Buffalo, NY, I graduated with a Master’s degree, and also completed the course work and much of my dissertation research towards a Ph.D. Some of my graduate work was completed in medical school, and just as I did after graduation, I continue to partake in continuing medical education in various forms to this day.
As a lifelong proponent and follower of complimentary therapies, I have researched and personally used most of the popular modalities, such as homeopathy, chiropractic, massage therapy, acupuncture, reflexology, and the use of diet, exercise and supplements, to achieve optimum health.
In contrast to mainstream medicine, which treats the disease and not the person, holistic medicine focuses on the whole being; mind, body and spirit. I perfectly understand the vital importance of the mind-body connection, and it is also my belief that we must combine both the very best elements of alternative/complimentary therapies and conventional treatments, a marriage known as integrated medicine.
I have worked in clinical research management, where I was integral to the design, development and implementation of several, multi-site studies, and sat on two national committees - serving women’s health and patient care—and was very proactive in achieving our goals of providing critical patient resources. Having transitioned into public health, I embraced the recent shift toward preventive medicine; whereby the emphasis becomes that of getting and keeping people healthy, through screening programs (e.g. mammography, prostate exams), and education. I hope that you will allow me to help you attain your wellness goals and to guide you towards a healthier future.
